Physical Differences are Part of the Human Experience
This integrated interdisciplinary project is meant to explore human differences through literature and to research how individuals, families, and society respond to them. We have purposely left the idea of human differences open to interpretation. Literature examines a variety of human differences that adolescents will find interesting and worth exploring. However, when students begin to brainstorm research topics, you should narrow the subject to a health-related condition that parallels what students have been studying in science, health, history, and math.

This integrated interdisciplinary project model is a wonderful simulation that prepares students to solve real world challenges. Students must identify existing community health problems and then create solutions for them. This moves them into an involvement with their community. This project can be adjusted to be used as a Service Learning or Community Action Project and is very student-centered.

The Genetic Revolution: Medicine for the 21st Century
This integrated interdisciplinary project model is designed to help students understand biotechnology and the ethical issues involved in its applications. Through lessons learned from history, having "hands on" experience of biotech basics, and learning about current progress, we can help students understand the role of biotechnology in their lives. The lessons consider family health and ethics as well as our rights involving the human genome. Student involvement in the project includes gathering and synthesizing information, and disseminating what they learn to the community.

Women in Herstory
Have women's achievements in medicine/science contributed to the changing status of women in modern U.S. society? Peruse this interdisciplinary integrated project model that was developed by a team of teachers with the philosophical goal of provding a health care context by which students can truly learn their subject matter. There was never the intent to create career search projects, per se, but to allow the natural evolution of career awareness to occur throughout the process. This is not to portend that one is superior to another, but merely that this was the choice of this particular interdisciplinary team.
